Truck Driving Courses Statement

I.T.S. believes diesel truck driver training courses should respond to the needs of the Trucking Industry. The professional driver field is growing with demands from industry to move increasing volumes of freight with safety and efficiency. The importance and role of the driver in today's economy is best expressed by realizing that three (3) out of every four (4) tons of freight in the United States is moved by truck. Practically everything we eat, wear, buy and sell, is transferred by truck. The training curriculum at I.T.S. is responsive to these ever growing demands for qualified and safe drivers.

Truck Driver, Accelerated

Our 120 hour course of study is designed with the motivated self starter in mind. This is for an individual with a limited amount of previous driving skills and the ability to study on an independent basis.

This course of study will develop and enhance driving skills, with an emphasis on safety, emergency skills, hazard perception, and vehicle safety inspections.

Basic Truck Driver

International Trucking School has developed an integrated course of study where classroom and "hands-on" training are combined in such a manner that students learn theory and practice application the same day. This method has been successful in keeping the students motivated. Each student will learn key functions of vehicle systems; e.g. engine, engine auxiliary systems, brakes, drive train coupling systems, suspension and the importance of each to safe and efficient operation. Federal and State requirements, including need for permits. Proficiency development practice on range and street operations. Completion of the Basic Truck Driver course is 20 days, 4 weeks. Five days of training per week. The course has also been developed into a part time course for students who may be working and wish to seek employment in the trucking industry. We offer training three (3) days per week, day and evening classes. Approximately thirteen (13) weeks.

Commercial Truck Driver

Students who select this course of training can expect training in more than the essential requirements necessary to enter an entry level employment. These student drivers will become knowledgeable in their personal and vehicle limitations under normal and extreme/adverse conditions. These drivers will develop the skills necessary to identify potentially hazardous conditions, and react to the situation with confidence and safety. Students will have a more complete understanding of the way the industry is working and of the driver's responsibilities. Secondary instruction is required and basic paperwork, regulations, and safety awareness helps the student to develop more than the essential knowledge required for that position. Completion of the course is 68 days, approximately twelve (12) weeks Six (6) days of training per week.

This course has also been developed into a part time course for students who may be working and wish to seek employment in the trucking industry. We offer training three (3) days per week, day and evening classes. Approximately twenty three (23) weeks.

Tractor Trailer Driver Specialist

Students selecting this course of training have specific career goals in mind. The student is educated and trained with essential skills and understanding of the industry. The student practices and develops the knowledge and ability to analyze the critical situation and execute appropriate defensive or evasive actions, thereby reducing the likelihood and severity of an accident. Basic and required paperwork are introduced as secondary instruction. Students acquire fundamental skills necessary for safe entry into on-the-job training with selected carriers. Specialization will further enhance the trainee to enter upper-level driving positions driving twin trailer combinations. Approximately four (4) months in length.
